The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Illinois Chapter will host its first annual Illinois Blood Cancer Conference on Saturday, April 14 at Hamburger University on the McDonald?s Campus in Oak Brook, Ill. This free, one-day conference provides patients, their families, nurses and social workers with critical information about research developments, disease management, health care reform, long-term survivorship and resources available via LLS. The conference will revitalize patients and their families and arm all attendees with knowledge, courage and hope to face the cancer journey.
This annual conference includes presentations, breakout sessions and panel discussions led by professionals from top Illinois medical institutions, including The University of Chicago Medical Center, Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Rush University Medical Center. Participants will be attending breakout sessions covering the diagnosis, treatments and side effects managements of leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma or myelodysplastic syndromes, respectively. Additional breakout sessions include presentations about healthcare reform, long-term survivorship, clinical trials and life challenges during the cancer journey; all presented by local experts.
In addition, Dr. Todd Zimmerman, of The University of Chicago Medical Center and a member of the LLS Illinois Chapter Board of Trustees, will introduce attendees to LLS Research and Patient Services. In a brief presentation, Scott Saxe, President of the LLS Illinois Chapter Board of Trustees, will discuss LLS?s legislative advocacy efforts on behalf of patients at the local, state and national levels. To close the day, a panel discussion entitled, ?Questions for Your Healthcare Team? will guide patients and their families through critical conversations with an oncologist, nurse, social worker and dietitian.
