On Wednesday night, the Tampa Bay Times Forum belonged to a man of crystal-blue eyes and numerous lies: Paul Ryan. Ryan?s speech was also notable for its aggressive, combative tone (As John Dickerson observes, the veep nominee has so far neglected his role as the ticket?s ?idea man? in order to play the attack dog). Unsurprisingly, the second Slate/SurveyMonkey snap poll?posted at the end of the address and closed at 9:30 Thursday morning?reveals an electorate torn between approval for Ryan?s steeliness and dislike for his pitt-bull style.

We asked registered voters across the country: ?Did Representative Paul Ryan?s speech make you more likely or unlikely to vote for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan in the upcoming election?? (Information on respondents is available?here. More information about SurveyMonkey Audience is?here.) Overall, answers confirmed an election in stalemate, as around 53 percent of survey takers reported that they felt moved neither one way nor the other. But Ryan?s broadsides uncorked passionate feelings in viewers, too: Almost 24 percent said they were ?much more unlikely? to vote Republican after watching the nominee talk, while 14 percent declared themselves ?much more likely.?

Paul Ryan?s words Wednesday night did not help Mitt Romney?s problems with the fairer sex. Men responded more warmly than women did to Ryan?s bare-knuckled show of strength. About 17 percent of male survey-takers claimed they were ?much more likely? to cast a ballot for Romney and Ryan after hearing Ryan fume about shuttered factories and lapsed leadership. Only 10.6 percent of women said the same.

Not surprisingly, Ryan?s divisive approach has led to a splintered result. On Thursday night, we will find out how Mitt will build on the words that went before him. Will he try to deal the final blow or will he to take the stage in a calmer, more affable style? After Ryan?s performance, there may be no more need for this team to show its teeth.

Church in Mexico Reaches Out to Victims of Violence

Prelates Call on State and Society to Do More

MEXICO CITY, AUG. 29, 2012 (Zenit.org).- The Catholic bishops' commission for social work in Mexico organized a workshop on ways to help victims of violence.

Representatives from a number of dioceses attended the meeting, which was held last week.

From the point of view of the Church both the state and society need to do their part to reduce violence, declared Archbishop Carlos Garfias Melos of Acapulco. Mexico's bishops, he explained, are doing what they can to deal with this grave situation of violence.

The Church' efforts are directed not only towards the victims of violence, but also include an effort to build peace and bring about reconciliation.

Dialogue is needed, the archbishop declared, in order to put an end to the conflicts and to bring about justice and peace.

Mexico continues to struggle against violence in their "war on drugs," under way since 2007. The death toll from the war is nearing the 50,000 mark.

Rapper Beanie Sigel arrested for drug, gun possession: report

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Philadelphia rapper Beanie Sigel was arrested on Wednesday on drug and gun possession charges, celebrity website TMZ.com reported, days before he was headed to prison for tax evasion.

The rapper, whose real name is Dwight Grant, was arrested during a traffic stop during which police found prescription pills, marijuana, a gun and cash in his car, TMZ.com said.

Sigel, 38, best known for his collaborations with rapper Jay-Z and R&B artist R. Kelly, was sentenced to prison last month after owing more than $728,000 in back taxes to the Internal Revenue Service, Philadelphia's local Fox affiliate said.

A judge ordered Sigel to pay all taxes, penalties and interest, which officials said he failed to do. The rapper was due to report to prison on September 12.

Representatives for Sigel and the Philadelphia police could not be reached for comment.

Despite odds, Influxis streaming nicely - vybegevil's posterous

Richard Blakely and Jerry Chabolla, friends, founders and owners of local technology company Influxis, moved their company to Santa Clarita from Hollywood in 2007.

Building cutting-edge interactive streaming projects for national advertising agencies and top brands like Warner Bros, Paramount Pictures, Toyota, Sony, Domino?s Pizza, National Geographic and Proctor & Gamble, the two entrepreneurs first set up their company in 2001.

They call themselves the ?streaming experts? and say they?ve landed major clients because Influxis can accomplish what everyone else says is impossible, said CEO Blakely.

?We?re known for coming up with the most creatively challenging solutions for streaming video and audio,? he said.

Companies and creative digital advertising agencies have sought out the company?s expertise when a project was ready to collapse, both entrepreneurs said. But Influxis has pulled off the impossible over and over again, Blakely said.

?Over the years our reputation has really served us well,? he said. ?We work on a lot of different campaigns with different companies that are always trying to top each other.?

Providing business-to-business server, network and support services for companies who want to utilize streaming technologies, Influxis works ?obsessively close? with its customers to help them pull off extremely creative challenges, said Chief Technology Officer Chabolla.

But cutting edge projects are helping to build the Influxis reputation even more.

Remote interaction

Influxis helped develop the first-ever online event where people were able to drive a real Mitsubishi Outlander SUV online via Web-control, using the keyboard, ensuring that there was no perceived delay in driving the vehicle, the men said.

?One of our favorite clients is Yamaha,? Blakely said. ?We had a real piano in a museum that you can play remotely through our servers and network.?

Featured at the 2011 Newport Music Festival, Jeff Hawley, director, customer experience group, for the Yamaha Corp. said in a testimonial that ?Influxis has been a wonderful partner and as Yamaha continues to push the tech boundaries, they always jump to the occasion and help us make it happen.?

?We can work with your developers or can build it for them,? Chabolla said.

Influxis, however, was built by the founders spending their last dollar.

School friends

Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, the pair moved themselves and their company to Santa Clarita.

?We were good friends since high school,? Blakely said. ?I was into graphic design and programming and Jerry was into animation and drawing.?

In high school the two had thought of starting a computer-based programming and graphic design print shop, but their other jobs got in the way of realizing that dream.

Not long after, however, the two came together to start an Internet-based company.

?Jerry was on board and helped with all the design graphics and animation we needed,? Blakely said.

The pair started their company without any financing right as the dot-com bubble burst ? and no one wanted to invest in an Internet company in 2001, the men said. The original business concept failed and the two started taking on Web design projects to support themselves.

?But we hated not having recurring income, working project to project and eating one month and starving the next,? Blakely said.

Researching hot new technologies, the two young men discovered pretty much no one else was developing streaming and collaboration at the time.

Blakely and Chabolla became obsessed with the concept of a ?connected Web? where everyone using the Internet could see everyone else using it at the same time; similar to how a Webinar operates, but with more sophisticated options. And they found the tool that allowed them to design their masterpiece, Adobe Media Server.

?Richard invested all of our money into the software,? said Chabolla. ?He said, ?If this doesn?t work, we?ll have to go get regular jobs.? Fast forward 10 years later and we?re still here.?

Global growth

In 2007 people were just starting to care about streaming, Chabolla said. Already positioned to serve the market, Influxis grew quickly on that technology wave.

Privately held, Influxis has some 3,000 customers today and the business partners say most of their business is from repeat customers. The company helps two types of clients ? monthly customers and short-term, campaign-based clients.

About 65 percent, of the company?s business is in the U.S. and 35 percent is international, primarily in Europe, Latin America and Asia, Blakely said.

?We got a really great office space in the Valencia Industrial Center, have 30 employees, an operations and call center in one office and another office for development,? Blakely said.

In all they like the SCV.

?Most all of the people are local,? Chabolla said. ?When we moved here from Hollywood there were only four of us but then we grew so scarily fast.?

Sarajevo Massacre Remembered :: Balkan Insight

Past verdicts of the Hague Tribunal have concluded that on August 28, 1995, several shells were fired from Army of Republika Srpska positions at the centre of the besieged city of Sarajevo.

One of these shells fell in front of the northern entrance to the city?s Markale market in Mula Mustafe Baseskije Street, killing 43 and wounding 84 people.

Nasuf Rasevic?s brother was one of those killed.?

?We were together that day, but I went to the Eternal Flame and he stayed at the market. When the shell fell, I ran towards the market and saw that my brother had been killed. They did not let me through, but I saw my dead brother on the handrails,? recalled Nusuf Rasevic.

Although 17 years have passed, Rasevic says that the most difficult thing for him to deal with are the denials of the responsibility for the Markale massacre, and he primarily blames the authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina for permitting these denials.

Nasiha Celebic, whose brother was also killed in the August shelling of the Markale market, says that the denials of the crime by the Bosnian Serbs offends her.

?I?m deeply offended when the murders at Markale are denied. It is tough living with that even after so many years,? said Celebic.

Two members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zeljko Komsic and Bakir Izetbegovic, as well as the prime minister of the Sarajevo Canton, Fikret Music, paid their respects to the victims that died at Markele. No officials from Republika Srpska attended the ceremony.?

?The forces that carried out the aggression on Bosnia had no consideration for either the timing or location of the attack. They wanted Bosnia to disappear. Thank God that did not happen,"

"This place, as well as other places where people died, are a warning, ?and send a message to young people that they can live together, side by side, in Bosnia and Herzegovina in a dignified manner,? said Music.

Zeljko Komsic, the Croatian member of the Bosnian tripartite Presidency, said that the murder of his fellow citizens hurts him as much today as it did in 1995.

?The years pass and I hurt just the same. I am also aware that we simply must move on. We have to continue living knowing that such a crime was committed and make something normal of this country, but it still hurts,? said Komsic.

The Hague Tribunal has sentenced two former commanders of the Sarajevo-Romania Corps of the Army of Republika Srpska for the shelling campaign against Sarajevo. Stanislav Galic was sentenced to life imprisonment and Dragomir Milosevic to 29 years in prison.

The former Bosnian Serb leader, Radovan Karadzic, ?and the former Bosnian Serb army chief, Ratko Mladic, who are currently on trial at the Hague Tribunal, are also charged with these crimes.

Tuesday?s commemoration marks the second massacre at the Markale market. The first massacre took place on February 5, 1994, when a single shell fell killing 68 and wounding 144 people.

Welcome to Florida and Isaac.

I've covered hurricanes for 30 years, from as far south as El Salvador to the tip of Long Island at Montauk Point.

So if you are from a landlocked state or one far from the hurricane zone, a few tips that you won't see on most lists:

---

*Pack some zip-lock bags. You will need them to protect so much -- from your phone to a pair of socks you put in your pocket or purse.

*Bring shoes that you can walk in water with.

Since you don't want boots, as those won't work well headed to the convention hall, try crocks. Put your shoes in your hand, roll up your pants, slog thru the water and dry off. Crocks dry easily and are weightless -- you can stuff them in your bag/purse.

Trust me, you can't escape the puddles, and those odd-colored crocks are just fun enough to make people smile in the misery.

Want to skip crocks? Get some bread bags and rubber bands to cover your shoes. It's ugly but works.

*Get a tiny pin flashlight that goes on your key chain. You won't need it here with all the auxiliary power, but it's nice peace of mind.

*Grab a baseball cap to protect your hair from the rain.

*Umbellas are a pain. They blow inside out. You need a very light rain coat. (It's hot during a hurricane/tropical storm, and you don't want a coat that makes you perspire or worse: sweat!)

*Finally, don't focus on the category of the storm.?I've seen tropical storms create more havoc than a category 2 storm.

Inside the forum, you won't even know there's a storm. And if you're a guest at the beach while your loved one is busy with politics, bring a book, and if the weather doesn't clear up by Wednesday, consider a drive inland. Orlando and the theme parks are only twohours or so away. Just check weather.com to see of the skies are sunny nearby.

Astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, was remembered by friends, colleagues and admirers as a man who made his country believe anything was possible with ingenuity and dedication.

A few examples from the outpouring of expressions for Armstrong, who died today at the age of 82:

President Barack Obama: "Michelle and I were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Neil Armstrong."

Michael Collins, the astronaut who piloted the Apollo 11 command module and circled the moon while Aldrin and Armstrong went to its surface: "He was the best, and I will miss him terribly."

My 67-year-old grandmother taught me how to drive. True story.

The woman had the patience of a saint.

My parents didn't step foot in a car that I was navigating until I was fully licensed. They didn't teach any of my brothers how to drive either. We were all sent to Driver's Ed, and logged our permit hours with our teacher or other family members in various public parking lots and on empty rural roads.

Needless to say, my mom won't be teaching my daughter how to drive when that dreadful day comes. Rather, the job will likely fall to me.

I hadn't really given it much thought given that my daughter is still 8 years away from getting her learner's permit. However, a recent news story changed that.

Yesterday, I read about the tragedy that befell a mom who was innocently teaching her 15-year-old daughter how to drive the family car.

According to news reports, 40-year-old Kimberly Riggs turned over the car keys to her daughter in an empty church parking lot in Newport, Kentucky. The single mom stepped out of the car, so she could observe her daughter's driving technique.

Shortly after the teen got behind the wheel, she mistakenly pressed down on the car's accelerator instead of the brakes. The girl reportedly panicked and lost control of the car, hitting her mom and knocking her to the ground.

In a horrifying turn of events, the teen became hysterical and started driving uncontrollably in the lot. Police say the teen then knocked down a fence, hit the back of a nearby house, and then turned the vehicle around and slammed into her mother again, pinning the woman's body against a fence.

"I yelled to her [Riggs] 'Move!' but it was too late. You would never think to see something like that," a witness told a local TV news crew.

Riggs was tended to by various strangers who came running when they heard the crash. Unfortunately, she couldn't be saved and died at a local hospital, shortly after the accident.

Riggs's daughter was also treated for minor injuries... physical ones. The emotional pain that poor girl is suffering will likely take a lifetime to recover from.

As fans of the Steelers scattered throughout the world it is important that we take a moment to adequately prepare for our upcoming fantasy drafts. We are near the top in our knowledge of football and our love for our team knows no bounds. But as fantasy football owners we must protect ourselves against ourselves. And therefore, I have created a list of DOs and DON?Ts to help you navigate the minefield of being a Steeler fan on draft day ? both envied and hated throughout the land.

First of all you must remember that a good year for the Steelers does not equate to a good fantasy year for any of its players. You must also remember that a Steeler win and a good season is always more important than your fantasy team. That said, your head must be in the right place on draft day. I know you are upset at the projections for Ben?s production and the ADP (average draft position) for all other Steelers offends you? I also know you know we never win big or fancy or with gaudy numbers ? and we don?t care. But your heart is telling you that this year we can have both. On draft day you must squash those feelings? and be smart. Use your head!
