Islamabad,? An US-based Pakistani filmmaker has urged on a ban on Bollywood and Hollywood movies in Pakistan, and has offered his guidance and support to save the deteoriating Pakistani film industry.

Urging the government to make efforts in the revival of the large screen by encouraging independent filmmakers and movies on social issues, Mumtaz Hassan said that it can be possible only by imposing a ban on screening and sale of foreign commercial movies like in Iran, the Daily Times reports.

Stating that Hollywood movies are better than Bollywood in almost every field, Hassan said that his filmmaking experiences with Hollywood actors, actresses and other technical staff will come in handy for the Pakistani film industry.

Hassan also advised filmmakers, audience and film production students not to follow Bollywood movies, saying that they are only working for commercial purposes, adding that there is no dearth of talent and creativity in Pakistan and they need only the attention of the government to move forward in this field.

Citing the example of Pakistani plays, serials, dramas and singers who had been acknowledged in the international market, Hassan said that if filmmakers are given the time, resources and attention, they can prove themselves among the top in the world.

Hassan further said that because of his services and guidance, he has been contacted by several final year students of film making at National College of Arts and Beaconhouse National University, both in Lahore, adding that he would provide them guidance through the Internet when he is in the United States. Hussain has directed an informative talk show for Channel 9 ?Ask a Lawyer? and has recently finished production of a feature length film ?art=(love)2?, the report added.
